Incidentally, if I may venture into the womans domain, your oil has to be at full temp when you pour the batter in I always found.

Yes, about the oil, I have read that before, but I was following a low fat (!!) recipe, we just ate it, and I don't think it was quite how it was meant to be, but it was still yum  |
