In connection with the other thread on the holocaust 27th January is memorial day
When we remember those who were killed in 6 years of war and the attrocities that went on there
We pray for Isreal and its safety
A snippet from a friends newsletter - Adrian Glasspole who is in Manchester and worksfor CMJ
Israel is under more threats than she has been for a long time. To the north, the Hizbollah have vowed to end the War by destroying Israel. To the west, the Hamas have vowed the same. To the east, Iran have vowed to wipe Israel off the planet, and will soon have nuclear bombs with which to do it! To the south Saudi Arabia is quietly arming and funding many Islamic terror groups as well as the Hamas and Fateh.
Psalm 2 springs to mind

IF Iran gets or even attempts to get nuclear weapons. It hasn't done so yet. _________________ The effectiveness of a posting is inversely proportional to its length.

Did you ever watch "Schindler's List"? I purchased it thru my video club. It's a true account.
I had no idea that the 27th was a special observance day. I'm surprised nothing was referenced at the church service this evening. _________________ You O Lord are the potter, I am the clay, the work of Your hands. |

I like Schindlers List very much.
I love the music from it, and I am a big Ralph Fiennes fan.
I live not that far from Bergen Belsen which is where Anne Frank died. |

It's my second favourite piece of music...
My first being Barbers Addagio for strings. It was used as the music for a war film but I can't remember which. _________________ ".... love thy neighbour as thyself." is the hardest thing I have ever done.... |

This was one of the most depressing films i've seen the fact that it was from a true story made it all the better. I enjoyed it in a miserable sort of way. These types of films leave an imprint on your mind for days...I wonder what kind of an imprint The Excorsist or serial killer films etc leave on young weak minds but that's as usual for me going off topic |

The chosen date is the anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz concentration camp by the Soviet Union in 1945.
The first one was held in the UK in 2001 and has been held ever since. There are many in government who are urging Blaire to ditch the idea, one assumes because they don't want to offend any Muslims, amongst others, who say it didn't happen.

I did read the book CG, but it wasn't that great after the film.
They were talking about Oskar Schindler on Radio 4 this morning and mentioned that he had been declared a *righteous gentile* by the Jewish people, that made me feel a bit sad.
I was at a museum once in Munster ( http://www.munster.de/pzm/index.html )and they had, in a small case, Rommels uniform (I am sure it was Rommels uniform, it was white jacket, waist length) I was looking at it, and an old German man was standing next to me.
He pointed to the uniform in the cabinet and tried to tell me that he had served with this man.
He looked sad and angry and scared all at the same time, and clearly he knew I was british.
I just so much wanted to give him a hug and tell him I did not hate him because he was German, but it didn't feel right.
This is the kind of uniform on display: (if anyone finds it offensive I will remove it)

I think I understand why you feel sad at this, but, from an Israeli viewpoint, this is a great respect. I believe Schindler also has a tree on the Avenue of Heroes I think it's called. Again, for a gentile, a great respect. _________________ ".... love thy neighbour as thyself." is the hardest thing I have ever done.... |
