Dont know if i have ever explained how i came to be a Glass Polisher. Its a long story but here is the short version.
I was raised A Roman Catholic. Had a strong belief in God and at one time it was thought i would become a Priest. My family moved to England, seven surving children. As a young man i took the wrong road. I was greatly influenced by the troubles in Ireland. Just when things were getting bad i met a beautiful young girl aged 17,i was 19. I went back to Ireland and could have stayed there but i had fallen in love. I had a choice to make and decided to return to England. Meeting my now wife Anne was the best thing that could have happened to me. We were married in 1970 and 10 months later our son was born,he was honeymoon baby.
Looking back my wife took a chance, her parents were not sure it would work out. I was still influenced by the Irish situation but now i had a wife and son and i so wanted to settle down.
Then one night there was a knock on the door. Two men introduced themselves as christians and asked did i think there would ever be a time when there would be peace on Earth. They were Jehovahs witnesses and that call led to us spending over ten years as Jehovahs witnesses. That is a story in itself but suffice to say that at that time my joining the witnesses gave me a peaceful attitude to life and directed me away from a road leading to destruction. Sadly i did not know that spiritually i was still on the road to destruction.
I was baptised as a witness in 1973,my wife in 1974.Our second son was born in 73. Back then 1975 was the date when the Watchtower was predicting the end--Armageddon. There was a real sense of anticipation,of urgency. Many witness made great sacrifices because they thought the end was near. In our case we neglicted buying a home,we cancelled all our insurance policys-endowments. We did not think our children would go to school . And so to window cleaning. Because i wanted to spend more time going from door to door my self and another witness took up window cleaning. We took turns each month doing most of the work so that the other one could go preaching. Our motives were to please God,we really had bought the Watchtower message 100%. I thought that i would be cleaning windows until 1975 and here i am all these years later still at it.
Am i worried or bitter?,not at all. I have had a good career which i still enjoy.I have made many friends and even better God has taken the situation and used it for his glory.
I became a christian in 1983,my wife in 84. I soon had a desire to reach out to my former bretheren among the witnesses. working as a window cleaner gave me the freedom to do so. And so i spent the nest 12 years involved in outreach to Jehovahs witnesses. My church even supported me as a part time evangelist,so i ended up working three days a week as a window cleaned. Strange how it all worked out.
So there you have it. Thats why i clean windows. It has its ups and downs, and sometimes its a bit of a pane, but at least i am going up in the world.
I should mention that our third son was born in 1979,it was a great decade for us. This May we celebrate our 37th wedding anniversary .I consider myself to be a very blessed man. I have a wonderful wife, three wonderful children and i am secure in my faith in Jesus. I know that nothing can seperate us from the love of God.
Well i had better finish now. This was meant to be a short explanation of why i am a window cleaner. We Irish dont know when to stop.

Going up and down a ladder will have its ups and downs - and going up a ladder could be seen as going up in the world

Do people there not use "fantastic-plastic"???? It's the slang term here for credit cards. In my area most people use cash+credit cards equally. _________________ You O Lord are the potter, I am the clay, the work of Your hands. |

I like cash. I shall miss it. I will have no use for my piggy banks.
Oh for the days when a visiting relative would give you a half crown on departure! Does anyone else remember things like that? It was common practice years ago for kids to be given a little monetary tip, doesn't happen now nor has it for years. |

I tossed a penny in the air
It fell to earth I know not where
If it had been a half a crown
I would have watched where it came down.
I have always tried to use cash, but Helena feels safer with minimal cash so she can't get robbed. Also Tesco card gives a lot of points and we get a big contribution towards our holidays.
We don't spend any more than we would otherwise and do not have to use tesco.
And we pay it all at then end of the month. So no extra expenditure, no interest payment, seems a good system. _________________ The effectiveness of a posting is inversely proportional to its length.
