The Future of Shopping and the End of Freedom.
‘Going, going, gone.’ As I went up the escalator at Waterloo station in London, I noticed a series of adverts announcing the coming end of cash. It was promoting one of the new payment cards which will allow consumers to make small purchases from a glass of beer to a newspaper without cash. Customers will be able to tap or wave the card over a scanner and buy items less than £10 in value. This will inevitably mean the demise of cash on the high street. A study by retail analysts Datamonitor suggests that ‘tap and go’ could replace the use of cash in purchases totalling £32 billion a year within 5 to 10 years. The cards will work in a similar way to the Oyster scheme on London’s transport system. Millions of commuters pay for travel on the tubes and buses by passing their Oyster cards over sensors at ticket barriers.

| The original hearers/readers of Revelation would have had no notion at all about the cashless society of the 20th and 21st Centuries. Consequently their understanding of Revelation 13 (not of course that they would have known it by that title) would have been very different. I honestly feel that the fears about barcodes and microchips heralding the Beast and his mark are totally groundless. |

Its best to have a chip on both shoulders....then you are balanced
The way the weather has been these last few weeks me and my better half are already living in a `cashless` society. But as they say....we can live on love.

Interesting you should bring this up. In the States we have what is called "fast-tap". A small card you wave or tap over a sensor at gas stations, supermarkets, etc. They even have TV commercials for this. I always attributed this to people just being in too much of hurry or lazy.
Eddie, why would a window washer need a *chip/sensor*??? _________________ You O Lord are the potter, I am the clay, the work of Your hands. |
