They said last night on the news that the labour party were in a dilema concerning the new bill that is being passed that makes it illegal not to accept Homosexual rights (I hope ive expressed this correct) seemingly a catholic bishop is willing to close down a childrens orphanage if they have to accept a homosexual couple to parent children.
This will be one to watch closely. Any thoughts? |

I am in a real quandry over this one.
I have no desire for any child to be denied a loving home, and if a homosexual couple can genuinely offer one to a child no one else wants, then on one hand that could be classed as a good thing.
On the other hand, I know that homosexuality is not Gods revealed will for mankind, and therefore the Lord would never have intended for any child to be brought up within the confines of a hmosexual home, so on that hand it most definitely is not good, and I cannot support that.
As to the issue of wether the Catholic Church should be made to accept homosexuals as adoptive parents, the no, they most definitely should not.
They should have freedom to act according to their faith, but sadly I believe they will not for very much longer. |

| This issue has developed into quite an interesting thread over on Sparrows. If you like (and it's acceptable to do so) I'll come back later and post the link to it. |

I'm with the RC bishop on this issue.
A few years back we had the same quandery with our church, namely the donations made to the Childrens society could be given to work in placing children with homosexual foster parents".
My question would be "how would placing a child, who has probably had several difficult placement already and is probably already stigmatised by their peers, be better off with a homosexual/lesbian couple.
As much as society would like to believe differently, children can be very cruel. They pick on other children for all kinds of trivial things, (wearing glasses, weight, clothes etc) how much more would they be picked on if they foster "parents" were gay?
As christians we know the best way for a child to be brought up, and if this is not possible, then another option should be sought, but not this one.
Btw, I know of a lad who's mother is a lesbian, and lives with her "girlfriend". He is so mixed up and the situation has landed him in trouble. He has no male rolemodel as such, and although he isn't gay, his upbringing has left him very confused (which led to the trouble). He gets on ok with his "step-mum", but has great difficulty with his mums relationship. And all this for a child with his natural (birth) mum. How much worse must it be for those who's backgrounds have already given them problems.
There is no easy solution to the lack of foster carers/adoptive parents for older, difficult children, but imo placing children with "gay" couples is not the answer. _________________ God put me on this earth to do a number of things.

This issue was debated yesterday on Radio Five-Live.
The Catholic spokeslady was very good. She explained that it is a matter of Church teaching. At present when Catholic Agencies are approached by same sex partners seeking to adopt children, they give them every help they can but say they cannot accomodate them, and direct them to other Adoption Agencys.
A christian couple, friends of ours, fostered four children who came from a very difficult background, brothers and sisters. The children were doing fine but then Mum,who had decided she was a lesbian, and her new girlfriend turned up demanding to spend time with the children. To say this confused the children is putting it mildly.
I am also with the R/C Bishop on this one.

| Did anyone hear this being discussed on the Jeremy Vine show today on Radio2? Apparently the Catholic adoption agencies have previously been content to let single gays adopt children. Why has it been OK for a gay man or woman living alone to adopt a child but not if they embark upon a relationship? That news certainly came as a surprise to me. |

Apparently Tony Blair backed down on it so the RC church were right to stick it out for their faith because they won. |

| How exactly has Tony Blair backed down? As far as I know he has made no statement whatsoever about this issue. Has there been a development today that I for one have missed? With regard to WWJD/S I submit that we simply do not know. Certainly neither the RC Church nor the adoption agencies have used the teaching of Jesus as any part of their argument. Rather they have simply said that placing children with homosexual couples conflicts with Catholic teaching but not explained how or why. Elsewhere on this forum Catholic teaching (or at least how it is understood) has been ridiculed and attacked (Do Catholics worship Mary?). If Catholicism cannot be accepted because of this perceived wrong doctrine how come it's now suddenly acceptable when it opposes homosexuality? |
