I have a friend near there, I'm trying to remember the name, nope, it will come to me, she has a house boat on the lake. I have flown over the windy city but didn't stop.... Icon_biggrin

The char map is only useful for inserting one character at a time. While writing a post you would need the charmap open and select the character you want by clicking on it, then hit the select button, then the copy button. Place your cursor in the doc you are writing where you want the character to appear and right click then click paste. The character you chose should paste into your document.

Edit/ Sorry I was wrong there. It is possible to select several characters at a time then copy them all at once to paste into a document.

To write in say Spanish you will need the font installed in the PC. Then change to that font in your word processor and type the document. I then copy entire document and post it in my reply.

I will as you say, put it on Anne's tab, she has loadsa money..... Icon_wink

You can use Wordpad which can be found at Start/programs/accessories/wordpad
XP will be slightly different but I can't help with that as I don't use XP.

This is a basic but good word processor and you can paste items in it from Charmap.

I don't know,Sisyphus. I'm gonna have to thumb thru my PC for Dummies book on this one. Yep, I really do have the book, but I should have gotten the one just for Windows.

And you do not have XP, why?????? Icon_thinking

Isn't there a *thingy* where I can click on an open space on my desktop to open a *notepad*? I could copy text from charmap to there, then copy to my posts? Am I making too much work for myself here?

Did you know there is a 'dummies' web site with all sorts of info on for dummies and it has a good search facility too.

http://www.dummies.com/WileyCDA/Section/id-100004.html

I don't use XP for many reasons and most are to do with the fact that I am something of a nerd really.... Icon_biggrin

Yes, if you right click on your desktop and click New then click text document you will be able to write your text in that and copy and paste too.

I just know you can help me with this issue. I would like to stay logged in to this forum at all times as I'm home on disability. I seem to have a problem while here, then going to look up a word with my various search engines thru Firefox. When that happens,it boots me off the forum+I have to go back to my bookmarks, find the forum+enter all over again. How can this be avoided? I know, you're gonna tell me not to use my search engines, aren't you?

I can keep multiple tabs open+running other than when I use the search engines in my toolbar.

Input,please

I shrink the forum

Then open Internet Explorer in another window.

Don't know if this is any help.

Firefox works similarly.

If you click on file in the top lefthand corner, it will say "New window" or Ctrl +N.

If you do that, it should open another window for you to search the internet (or do whatever you choose,) without closing KTF.

KFT will then appear as a small line at the bottom of your screen, to view it again, just click on that.

Hope that helps Icon_hugginsmileys_753
