I do not like most reality tv i.e. big brother and the like, but I do like programmes like Badger or Bust and The Apprentice.
Did anyone see The Apprentice last night? It was the funniest thing I have seen for ages, they were trying to sell on a shopping channel and they were awful at it. But the one that really excelled themselves was Simon who caused me to have tears running down my face as he tried to sell a trampoline. Even Sir Alan was laughing in the board room. |

I watched QI the other night and they were saying that the man who invented the Big Brother program is the great great grandson of the guy who built the London Sewage system.
Family still dealing in crap then. _________________ Preach the gospel at all times. If necessary use words. — St. Francis of Assisi |

There's very little reality tv that I watch and personally I feel that it is possible to make a stronger case for not watching programmes like BB and The Apprentice than for not reading Harry Potter (to link to another thread). I know that this next point might strain credulity in some quarters and lose me some popularity (What do you mean I've got none left anyway? ) but I think programmes like Any Dream Will Do are pandering to the cult of greed, celebrity status and personal success at the expense of others. Having said that I must confess a fondness for quiz shows and once made an appearance on Who Wants To Be A Millionaire during the first series. I was second fastest finger. Twice. |

I like Any Dream Will Do because of the music, although I have not always agreed with the voting. I have never voted on a reality tv program, I cannot see the point.
Obviously I do watch the Apprentics but I have never watched BB. It just comes across as a psychological experiment where they mess with people's minds. |

I do not watch any soaps, they are so dark and depressing.
I do watch programmes like Maria and Joseph, but I have not watched American Idol. |

I know I am probably the only one who watched the Apprentice last night but I was fascinated by the press coverage this morning. I read in the newspaper that Sir Alan was annoyed with Katie yet what I saw last night was a calculated move on his part. I think he realised that Katie was using the competition for her own reasons and by telling her she had got through to the final having got her to promise something that she obviously could not keep he gave her a way to leave without losing face. She is not able to tell people that she left rather than to get to the final and possibly win only to end up having to either look like a liar by not keeping her promises or she would ahve had to uproot her family.
I did not see any evidence of Sir Alan being cross and was impressed by the way he dealt with the situation.
Just goes to show we cannot believe everything we read in the media |

I hate Big Brother unreservedly. It pains me a great deal that even though I have gone out of my way not to watch any of the current series, I still cannot open a news paper or internet news site without getting headlines about it. Sigh.
I enjoyed Joseph though. Glad that Lee won :D _________________ Europeforum, everyone welcome :) |

I agree with you about Lee. Whilst there were others who could sing he has a quality that they did not have.
I also agree about big brother, not watched, would not consider watching it. I am not against reality tv per se but I do prefer something with a point and as far as BB goes the only point seems to be to win money and to make a spectacle of yourself. |
