I thought I’d write a poem,
A pretty little verse!
Nothing sordid or provoking
Or sullen, sad or terse.
Then I thought I’d write an epic
Just like the Greeks of old
But I went back to my poem
‘Cause my bath was going cold!

For PC users over 40.
A computer was something on TV
From a science fiction show of note
A window was something you hated to clean
And ram was the cousin of a goat.
Meg was the name of my girlfriend
And gig was a job for the nights
Now they all mean different things
And that really mega bytes.
An application was for employment
A program was a TV show
A cursor used profanity
A keyboard was a piano.
Memory was something that you lost with age
A CD was a bank account
And if you had a 3-inch floppy
You hoped nobody found out.
Compress was something you did to the garbage
Not something you did to a file
And if you unzipped anything in public
You'd be in jail for a while.
Log on was adding wood to the fire
Hard Drive was a long trip on the road
A mouse pad was where a mouse lived
And a backup happened to your commode.
Cut you did with a pocketknife
Paste you did with glue
A web was a spider's home
And a virus was the flu.
I'll stick to my pad and paper
And the memory in my head
No one's been killed in a computer crash
But it makes their face turn red !

I still listen to programmes - on my wireless. _________________ May the God of peace, who through the blood of the eternal covenant brought back from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great Shepherd of the sheep, equip you with everything good for doing his will ... (Hebrews 13:20-21) |

“Oh, Adam was a gardener, and God who made him sees
That half a proper gardener’s work is done upon his knees,
So when your work is finished, you can wash your hands and pray
For the Glory of the Garden, that it may not pass away!
And the Glory of the Garden, it shall never pass away!”

I wrote a poem once called *An Ode to Marmite*..mainly to get up the nose of an Aussie on a forum years ago who kept going on about how Vegemite was better than Marmite.
It was on my old computer but I'll try and dig it out..it makes a riverting read |

One from Oop north.....
yer wunt much like the Yorksher moor its bracken is
knackerin ter walk on an ‘spagnum moss soaks up
everythin’ clouds drop on it the loose black soil leaks out
in clumps of bog with spikey reeds and it gets everywhere
in yer clothes an seeps down yer boots in ter yer socks you
look up at the big empty grey space angin overhead an yer
can see the hill yer on is hump-backed so yer cart tell
where it meets the sky ner where it’s come from ner where
it’s goin so yer slump an yer slouch an yer face on in ter
‘wind an yet trudge an yer squelch fer miles an miles an
the only bloomin things yer see are the reds an yellers an
pinks an greens of fluorescent jackets a crowd a host of
rucksacks an trainers millin at the moor’s ends an now yer
feet are killin so yer catch a bus ome kick off yer boots an
dry yer socks in front of a fire built with coal brought from
Poland.
