I need some input, please. Lately, at night, before going to sleep, I say the Our Father. I sometimes change some of the words to make it more meaningful for me, but the essence is still there.

I'm really stuck when I get to the part where it says "and lead us not into temptation"....

For the life of me I can't rephrase it to make any sense. Why would a loving God purposely put us in tempting situations? What am I missing here?

Jesus taught His followers this pray so long ago. We've all learned it as wee children, but I'm just now delving into its meaning for me + my relationship with God.

Your thoughts, please?????

Peace

Hi Nancy Icon_biggrin
Well this is a bit of a tricky one..I've never really thought about it in that way before, the thing about a loving God leading us into temptation...
I suppose you could look at it another way;
Instead of it being,

**and lead us not into temptation** isn't that like saying **please keep us away from things that will hurt/harm us** ? If we have free will then my belief is we can ask God to direct our path, but if we make our own choices we may fall by the wayside so we ask for God's protection..
I hope that makes sense ?
Love
Janie

Thank you gals!

Janie, it's so lovely to hear from you again. I've missed you bunches since Friends.

Faith, I don't believe we've met, but I'm looking forward to getting to know you here. :icon_grouphug02:

My understanding is "we do not seek being tested. We are weak and fear we will fail"

Deliver us from evil (can be the Evil One)
