Bridges

Here are some pictures of the first and second Severn Bridges, which link England and Wales.

This stretch of water has the second highest distance between high and low tide in the world.

I used to live near there, and went to see the second bridge a few times at different stages of it's construction. It was fascinating how they put it together, and the size of the pile driver for the pins that support the 'legs' was truly impressive!

I rememebr watching the cables being spun for the first one. I was so glad that I didn't have to go up to the top.

The picture is fairly accurate. The bridge looks as if it will fall down at any minute
