I am not sure I necessarily want it scratched to be honest .. I'd have to learn some more about it :). Maybe it would be a good way of promoting unity with the Muslim community? _________________ Europeforum, everyone welcome :) |

I don't think it should be financed out of Community charge or national taxes. _________________ The effectiveness of a posting is inversely proportional to its length.

| Quote: | | With respect to the proposal associated with a site near the Olympic development in Newham, we understand from Newham Council that there is no current planning permission or application for a mosque and Newham Council do not expect a planning application in the near future. |
Who exactly is going to build a mosque without planning permission that nobody has actually applied to build anyway?
Also how does whoever started the petition know for certain that this mosque | Quote: | | will only cause terrible violence and suffering |
I'm afraid I suspect a bit of scaremongering here. |

| There's a notable dearth of information on the mega-mosque in the independent media. I tried searching the BBC and a few national newspapers and could find almost nothing. |

| Shouldn't this whole thread be in the world news section and not the Lion's Den? |

| Hmm, an interesting exposition of how you view the Lion's Den - namely that it's (only?) for controversial issues. I've always seen it as a more in-depth area. Sort of more academic than general discussions if you like. Anyway why is a mega-mosque controversial in the first place? Would a synagogue or Sikh Temple of similar size be equally controversial? |

Absolutely. A church erected at the public's expense woulkd be questionable. _________________ The effectiveness of a posting is inversely proportional to its length.

Q. Is this proposed mega-mosque actually going to be built?
A. Since no planning permission has been sought we have to assume that it isn't.
Since it apparently isn't going to be built the issue of who finances it is immaterial.
Presumably, John, you'd also be against public funding for a Christian Church.
I just searched the BBC site for anything about London's mega mosque and the only article that came up dated back to October 2006. Whoever sent you the info in your opening post is using old material angel. Definitely scaremongering if you ask me. |

Bobby, does it matter where i put this? I look at the lions den as being somewhere we put "debating matters" so im debating this.
My personal opinion is that there is an argument for "Not" putting up a Mega mosque, Especially using using public funds, "allegedly".
We as a country are pulling down our Christian Ideals and letting others take over, now this frightens/Worrys me, so i wanted to discuss it.
I shall email the sender and ask where this story has come from. _________________ http://crying-out-loud.com/forum/YaBB.pl |

| Personally I think it does matter whereabouts on a forum a topic is posted. To my mind that's why we have different sections. The story about an allegedly proposed mosque is not a topic on a par with Creationism, whether Adam was a real person or other such topics that are listed in the Lion's Den index. The mosque is a news item, no more no less and as such better belongs in the News area where it can still be debated. Incidentally angel, had you forgotten that you posted this same topic back in March when the figures in favour were 62%? |

No I had not Noticed [trust me].
Well if you want it deleted maybe Sis could Delete this.
I will not put anymore on here, I did not realise it was a place for Debating only what certain members wanted debating. _________________ http://crying-out-loud.com/forum/YaBB.pl |
