The comedian Bernard Manning has died. It's kind of hard to know what to say because, although I would never rejoice in the death of a fellow human, I also despised Manning's brand of humour and thought that it was very harmful :(. Thoughts? _________________ Europeforum, everyone welcome :) |

Bernard Manning is a legend in these parts. Here is a tribute to Bernard..

There is no doubt that his brand of humour was very politically in-correct. He definetely called a spade a shovel. But i dont think he was a racist. His charity work is well known in this part of the world. I do think he could have toned his act down a bit in his latter years, but Bernard was not one to compromise.
I guess you either loved him or hated him.

I wasn't massively taken with some of the things that I saw quoted about him after his death. I remember his appearance on Mrs Merton when he definitely came across as a racist. _________________ Europeforum, everyone welcome :) |

Manning made a fool of himself on Mrs Merton, even his son said Bernard had overdone it. Was he a racist?,i dont think so. He took the mick out of everyone, black and white. I tell the odd irish joke and i am called a racist by some.
It matters not now,he has only one judge now. _________________ One thing i do know.I was blind but now i see. |

I am of Irish heritage - though I've never been there so it's debatable how much I can actually claim that heritage *rolls eyes* and I can't see myself getting offended by Irish jokes .. my granddad did not either, and would tell English jokes in retaliation. But I think that some subjects are more sensitive than others and I suspect that Manning crossed that line sometimes :( _________________ Europeforum, everyone welcome :) |
